Workshops and Talks
I offer in-person workshops and illustrated talks for textile groups and organisations, sharing my approach to materials, process, and creative practice.
My workshops are grounded in exploration — an opportunity to work closely with cloth, paper and stitch, building confidence through making and developing a more personal response to materials. Each session is carefully paced, with demonstrations, guidance and time to experiment.
Workshops and talks can be tailored to suit your group, and I welcome enquiries to discuss ideas further.
Workshops
Scottish Seascape in Mixed Media Collage
A layered exploration of paper and cloth, building a stitched coastal landscape through texture, colour and composition.
Textile Foiling
An experimental approach to surface, using foils, fabrics and layered materials to create richly textured abstract work.
3D Textile Vessels
A tactile, sculptural workshop exploring how fabric can be shaped and structured into expressive three-dimensional forms.
Shibori: Pattern, Cloth & Colour
A thoughtful exploration of resist, pattern and colour, using folding, binding and stitch with disperse dyes to transform cloth.
Talks
My Career in Textiles
An illustrated talk tracing my journey in textiles, from an early love of making through art school and into my professional practice. Alongside images, I bring a selection of samples from across my career, offering a chance to see the work up close and in context.
Margaret Macdonald’s Guardian Angels
This talk shares the story of a major textile commission for the National Trust for Scotland (2000–2001), undertaken for Hill House in Helensburgh in collaboration with Glasgow School of Art and three other artists. Focusing on the weaving element, I discuss the process of analysing the original panels and recreating the woven fabrics, now installed in the main bedroom.
