RACHEL DRAKE  ARTIST AND TUTOR

Inspiring Creativity

My creative practice spans many disciplines from drawing and painting to embroidery and textiles. What I love doing above all else is combining different types of artforms and experimenting, hence my love of working in mixed media.

ONLINE COURSES

As well as being a professional artist, I have many years experience teaching art and textiles to both adults and children. I am a qualified secondary school art teacher and have also taught textiles at Glasgow School of Art. I cater for all levels, from beginners to advanced, so can encourage and support you at whatever stage you are at in your creative journey.

I love passing on knowledge and inspiring others to be creative, running both self-paced online classes as well as in person workshops locally here in Scotland.

Please contact me directly if you are wishing to know more about workshops I can offer your local art or embroidery group.

Meet the artist

I studied at Glasgow School of Art gaining a first class BA (Hons) in Embroidered and Woven Textiles in 1994. I went on to become a freelance textile designer and then in 1999 returned to teach at Glasgow School of Art as the weaving and embroidery technician. In 2007 I left and became a full time artist exhibiting widely throughout the UK and working to commission. I have exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and have twice been a finalist in the Scottish Portrait Awards.

My work is very varied from portraiture, seascapes to working more abstract in mixed media. Combining my love of textiles and embroidery with fine art is my great passion. I am currently a part-time art teacher and run online courses in mixed media and collage.

"I get a real buzz from constantly trying out new ideas and techniques as it keeps me fresh and more creative, and I'd love to pass this enthusiasm on to you".
